board 13 is done

The trucks on this one were rebuilt with discarded parts from a local skate and few components that we bought. The wheels came from a thrift store board and the bearings were used but cleaned up very well. The deck was in a box of discarded decks donated by Oakland Vert Skatepark in Detroit.

A reminder that we are shooting for 20 boards that will go to underprivileged kids in Windsor so that they can get involved in skating this summer.

Boards 13 and 14 are a little short

Boards 13 and 14 have everything excenpt bearings. Right now we have none. For $25, we can put ABEC 5 bearings in both of these boards. Please contact us if you would like to help compelte these boards.

Board 12

Board 12 was made possible by donate truck components and wheels from Mike Brennan, a servicable second hand deck from Oakland Vert Skatepark and some spare parts and bearings bought by myself. I am still trying to find a way of funding the little bits. Anyway, board 13 should be ready as soon as I can clean some bearings. I hope to be at 20 boards by the start of May.

10-11 and More on the Way

Below you will find a few pics of our current progress. Board 10 (orange) is a rebuild from spare parts with new wheels, bearings and hardware. Board 11 is a donated complete from a local skater who moved from 8.25 down to 8.0. His old complete just needed some love and it is now read to rock.

The 4 frame collage shows boards 12-15. As you can see, 12 needs only axel nuts and hardware. The needs increase progressively until you get to number 15, which is currently only hangers and 2 baseplates without kingpins. I have some hardware on order, so these decks will be getting closer to completion soon.

Finally, I will be picking up our donation box from its first stint at a local youth group tomorrow. From there it will be headed to a local high school. At this pace, we should be able to meet the original goal of giving away 20 boards on Go Skate Day.

More boards done PLUS new Foster Board List

We have finished refurbishing 9 skateboards as of today. take a peak. Boards 8 and 9 came to completion due to material donations from Mike Brennan, Oakland Vert Skatepark and cash donations from other donors.

The whole idea behind reride is reusing things that are still functional. These parts are from quality boards and will still end up performing better than brand new department store boards. Decks 10, 11 and 12 all have trucks (which are the hardest parts to come by normally, but still need actual boards and other odds and ends. The completion of any of these will run from about $25 to $35. Please contact us if you can help with any of the needed items, or cash for their purchase.

Update and "Adopt-a-Board"

It was a good Christmas for Project Re-Ride. Even before the discards of gear resulting from our holiday hauls, we have been able to deck out some decks and bring our arsenal up to 7 boards, seen here. All of these boards are ready to shred.

Thus far we have relied on donations from a number of local skaters. A special thanks to Mike Brennan who donated a big bag of usable truck parts. Discarded hard goods have also been contributed by Bicycle World, Modern Skatepark and Oakland Vert Skatepark.

We have set a goal of giving away 20 boards this Go Skate Day (June 21^st). It would be wicked if we could go into the new year already ½ way there. So please consider adopting one of the following almost complete boards.

Deck #8 is sooooo close to being complete. It only needs mounting hardware for the trucks and bearings for the wheels. Completion cost: $13

Deck #9 is not far behind. It needs mounting hardware, bearings and two axel nuts. Completion cost: $14

Deck #10 does not have a deck yet, so there are two options here. Complete it all with a deck, bearings, mounting hardware, 2 replacement king pins and 4 axel nuts for $45, OR complete everything but the deck for $23.

In the meantime, we are refurbishing a number of trucks from Mike Brennans recent generous contribution. We are also working on a number of peices of art made from broken skateboards that might will hopefully help raise money for other refurb projects.

In the new year we will be collecting hard goods from local youth centers, grade schools and high schools, but there are always kids in need. please contact us through the Website or via private message on facebook.

Christmas

It is the holiday season and a lot of us will get new skate gear for Christmas (myself included). Please donate your old hard goods to Project Re-Ride to help an underprivileged kid to receive the gift of skate this summer.

RR 005 (DONATION)

Our 4th refurb fell into our hands when a local skater moved up to a larger board. The deck is a Modern Skate and Surf shop deck with Indy trucks. A solid 7.75 with lots of life left in it.

We are all but ready for 006, but we need trucks, that is it. Please help get us to 10 decks by Christmas. We will drive just about anywhere in the county to pick up gear. If you want to help, but don't have gear, donations of as little as $10 can buy needed materials, and entire completes can be purchased for as little as $100. (even less if you knwo where to look).

Help give a kid a good way to keep out of trouble next summer. Donate today.

RR 004 (donation)

The 4'th board we have collected is basically new. It is a Warehouse Skateboards blank complete with basically no wear. Very sweet.

For 005 we have bearings and wheels, but nneed a deck and trucks.

Donations of gear or cash are alwasy welcome. If you make a cash donation, you can even direct it towards something specific, like a deck or griptape.

RR 003 (mini cruiser)

PLEASE NOTE: The deck for RR003 has been replaced with a dnoated, used blank from Bicycle World. It had been determined that the cruiser deck was not of sufficent quality. Re-Ride will upgrade when it is needed in order to give the kids who receive these decks the best chance to really experience skateboarding.

RE-RIDE #003 is a mini cruiser. Generic board, no concave, sanded painted, stickered and regripped (Jessup). Generic tricks and wheels. Rush ABEC 5 bearings.

This one won't be much for tricks, but I have seen tre-flips on shorter tails. This will make a nice cruiser for a smaller kid.

The board was a solid garage-sale find and the grip, and bearings were purchased with money from an anonymous donor who wanted to help finish up some boards.

In other news, RE-RIDE is rebranding with I Ride I Recycle. Bruse over at Art of Board (the group that got the whole thing started) is setting us up with collection bins that will be rotating through local grade schools next year.

Once we receive our official action kit in the mail, we will make the shift official. This is part of AOB/IRIR/JoB trying to move international. The thing that I made clear was that to do this, our local efforts HAVE TO result in direct benefit to local kids. So we collect locally, rebuild locally, and distribute locally.
